Resident Evil Trailer [2026]

Resident Evil returns and reboots the franchise with director Zach Cregger of Weapons [2025] and Barbarian [2022] at the helm.

I’m a big fan of Weapons [2025] with it’s incredible cinematography, narrative structure and commitment to mystery, dread and horror which made it one of the stand out horror films of last year. It really was a director’s calling card to greatness similar to Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction which made him a household name.

I can’t wait to see how director Zach Cregger approaches the Resident Evil franchise. From the trailer it looks like he’s already taken things back to basics without Alice (Milla Jovovich). There’s also no indication of where this sits in the game lore either without Leon as the protagonist, and seemingly tells an original story that plays like a crossover between Evil Dead and Resident Evil. I can’t wait to see how this folds back into the game’s original umbrella corporation narrative over time.

Resident Evil is released on September 18th 2026.
